RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
For our Skymark Lobby project, we embraced a philosophy rooted in sustainability and transformation. This commercial office lobby, situated on the outskirts of Toronto, needed a fresh, contemporary look that aligned with our client’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values—without the disruption of a complete overhaul. We leaned into a strategic renovation approach, working with the lobby's existing structure and enhancing its character through impactful, carefully chosen design elements.
To create a significant visual transformation, we began with the wall colours, opting for a modern palette that instantly refreshed the space and created a welcoming atmosphere. We replaced the existing pink and grey granite flooring, which felt outdated and heavy, with neutral, versatile tiles that blend seamlessly into the lobby's new aesthetic. This choice not only brightened the overall look but also provided a timeless base that works beautifully with the other elements we introduced.
Lighting played a crucial role in our approach, so instead of relocating the existing perimeter fixtures, we upgraded them to energy-efficient LEDs that enhance both the space and the lobby's commitment to sustainable design. Central to the project’s vision is a stunning lighting installation of multi-colored glass spheres, suspended overhead as a dynamic art piece. This installation commands attention, casting vibrant hues and shadows that infuse the lobby with energy and movement, instantly elevating the space's ambiance.
The core of the lobby features a thoughtfully designed focal point—a large planter encircled by fluted wood panels stained to add warmth and texture. This element not only introduces natural greenery but also breaks up the space, encouraging movement and interaction. In tandem with this, we installed an oversized, custom-designed circular light fixture at the back of the lobby. This light installation mimics a skylight, creating a soft, natural glow that adds depth and dimension. Paired with a nature-inspired biophilic wall, it brings an organic, serene quality to the space, aligning with the client’s emphasis on ESG principles and the idea of well-being in commercial spaces.
The concierge area showcases the power of cohesive design with its rounded, linear motif that flows effortlessly throughout. From the slatted white oak millwork and paneling to the linear floor tiles, this motif creates a unified and welcoming environment. The integration of these repeated textures and forms not only enhances the visual continuity but also makes the lobby feel harmonious and balanced—a perfect blend of contemporary style and natural inspiration.
